Luck-By-Chance – Neat Debut
by gokul ~ February 2nd, 2009.I just happened to watch this movie with very less expectations and myworld was quite impressed with it end of the day. Welcome back to flicks on tinsel town, our very own tinsetown Bollywood.

Coming after an mindblowing flick Rock On the producers have made sure they just deliver the goods yet again and it proves to be a quality cinema.
Zoya Akhtar, the first name may sound ameaturish but surely not the last name. Definetely not suprising that a debut movie can look so beautiful especially if you have a legend as Javed Akhtar and another extremely succcessfull buddy to guide you in every step.
We’ve seen Rangeela or the recent OSO which does give us a deep insight on the working of the filmworld. Luck-By-Chance strikes a balance between the commercial elements and art cinema giving it a rejuvenated look. Vikram Jai Singh(Farhan Akhtar) dreams of becoming a hero and comes to B-Town Mumbai from Delhi. At his friend’s apartment he meets Sona(Konkana Sen) another aspring actress. Aly Khan is small producer taking advantage of her past 3 years making her do low grade cinema promising her a decend chance sooner if not later. Till that moment its just regulatory cinema where both become close to each other as they are in the same well struggling. Rishi Kapoor heavy budget producer decides to make a movie starring Zafar Khan(Hrithik Roshan) and popular actress Nina’s daughter Dimple. But despite begun the shoot Hrithik dumps the project after he gets a call from Karan Johar for his latest project. Look for a new face is on and how destiny pulls Vikram towards the project is superbly planned out by the director. What happens next and how destiny’s wish puts the toll on Vikram’s life forms the rest of the screenplay.

Shankar-Ehasan-Loy have delived tunes which have been very underrated. A few listenings and its surely catches you.
Though the climax may not be digested by all but it surely gives the right appeal. A bit of a drag in the latter half of the movie. Great camerawork but the editing sure needed a thought especially towards the latter half. Konkona Sen gives a sterling performance yet again and Farhan Akhtar is very natural, stil feel he’s underplayed himself as a hero. Rishi Kapoor, Juhi, Dimple, Sanjay Kapoor all do justice to their roles. The movie has quite a few guest appearances right from Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Akshaye Khanna, Kareena Kapoor to King Khan. Anurag Kasyap makes a 2 scene debut as well as a writer playing himself. On the whole watch it if you dwell for quality cinema, but can surely give it a miss with no regret if your looking for a timepass masala commercial cinema.
